Nobody Has to Agree With Me

There's a gray Patagonia base layer shirt sitting in my inventory right now that almost didn't make it into the shop. Not because anything's wrong with it. Because for a second I second-guessed whether it belonged here at all.
GiaNina Gifts runs mostly on sweaters, coats, the occasional handmade blanket, things that already feel like they have a story stitched in. A moisture-wicking athletic base layer, made for hiking and running, felt like it wandered in from a different store. I stood there holding it, Gray Heather, XXL, trying to decide if it actually fit here.
Here's the thing about running this by myself. There's no one to ask. No merchandising meeting, no second opinion over coffee, nobody to tell me I'm overthinking a $22 shirt. I make the call, I live with it, and if I'm wrong, I'm the one who fixes it next time.
So I kept it. It's well made, it's priced honestly, and somebody out there is going to be glad a secondhand Capilene base layer exists instead of a new one off a shelf. That's the test I actually use: would I be glad to find it myself.
Most days that's the whole job. Finding things. Deciding on things. Fixing things when I get them wrong. I photograph every piece on the same gray background in the same corner of the house. I measure every seam myself before it ever gets listed. I'm the one who answers when something doesn't fit right, and I'm the one who says sorry and makes it right. There's no team standing between me and you. Just me, and whatever's in the bin that day.
I used to think saying that out loud sounded like a weakness to admit. Now I think it's closer to the whole point. Every person who messages me gets the actual person who packed their order, not a form, not a department that forwards you to another department.
People trust a shop built by one set of hands with a kind of patience I don't take for granted, and I try to earn it every single time, one package, one honest answer, one fixed mistake.
Choose to be kind. Choose to be grateful. Choose to be happy.
